Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) includes all forms of communication (with the exception of oral speech) used to express wants, needs, and thoughts. Individuals with complex communication needs can use AAC to supplement or replace verbal language. AAC ranges from low-tech to high-tech and individuals may use a combination of both to communicate functional needs and wants. Dr. Danielson has training and experience using a variety of AAC tools, such as PODD, LAMP Words for Life®, eye-gaze systems, partner-assisted and switch scanning, dedicated AAC systems, as well as dedicated language apps on a tablet.
