I am a speech-language pathologist who has been practicing for over 30 years. In addition to my private practice, I have a wide range of professional experience within the public schools, as part of a physician’s practice, within hospitals, university programs and clinics. I work with children and adults presenting a variety of disabilities and disorders. Over the past 15 years I have developed a specialty in Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). I feel that AAC connects to and embeds the principles of good speech-language pathology practices. I have experience using varied AAC systems and apps, with specialized training on systems and programs, such as: PODD, LAMP Words for Life®, TouchChatHD, PRC-Saltillo©, Tobii Dynavox©, and Proloquo2Go.
I am an advocate for low-tech as well as high-tech apps and dedicated devices, using a variety of access strategies, including: direct selection, scanning and eye gaze. Assistive Technology (AT) tools and services support individuals with learning disabilities. I am an Assistant Professor in the Masters SLP program at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions, in Provo, Utah. This allows for continued interaction with the next generation of Speech/Language Pathology and continued pursuit of research and clinical activities relevant for client-centered practices.
